The Winding Road

“Life is not a straight line leading from one blessing to the next and then finally to heaven. Life is a winding and troubled road. Switchback after switchback. And the point of biblical stories like Joseph and Job and Esther and Ruth is to help us feel in our bones (not just know in our heads) that God is for us in all these strange turns. God is not just showing up after the trouble and cleaning it up. He is plotting the course and managing the troubles with far-reaching purposes for our good and for the glory of Jesus Christ.”

― John Piper

Life is a winding road filled with many ups and downs. It’s not meant to be easy or even to make sense. It’s about having faith that everything will work out in the end.

Choices

“There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them”

― Denis Waitley

If you’re unhappy with your situation or with the world, then either accept the way things are or work to change your circumstances. Will it be easy? No, but sitting around and complaining about the unfairness of life accomplishes nothing aside from making you more miserable.

Open Your Eyes

“The strongest people find the courage and caring to help others, even if they are going through their own storm.”

― Roy T. Bennett

No matter how bad and stressful things are in your life, don’t forget that there is a whole world that is still spinning around you. Be aware that others around you are going through their own storms and could use a smile or support. Don’t allow your own pain to blind you from seeing your neighbor’s struggles.

Count Your Bless

“Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage, and confidence.”

― Og Mandino

Sometimes it is so hard to see the good around you when it seems like your world is falling apart and nothing is going right. But, it is at these moments when you are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated that you need to stop, take a deep breath and count your blessings. Remind yourself of what is still good in your life. And the rest will work itself out.

How Will You Respond

“There’s no benchmark for how life’s “supposed” to happen. There is no ideal world for you to wait around for. The world is always just what it is now, it’s up to you how you respond to it.”

― Isaac Marion

Life is just life. It can be amazing at times and then it can be a nightmare. It all comes down to perspective. Life will continue to throw any and everything at you and how that affects your life depends on how you choose to respond. Never forget, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.

Do Something

“I said “Somebody should do something about that.” Then I realized I am somebody.”

― Lily Tomlin

Don’t sit around complaining about the unfairness of life and that someone else should fix what is wrong and broken in this world. If you see a problem, then get up and do something about it. If you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem. As Gandhi so wisely said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Take Your Time

“I’m going to enjoy every second, and I’m going to know I’m enjoying it while I’m enjoying it. Most people don’t live; they just race. They are trying to reach some goal far away on the horizon, and in the heat of the going they get so breathless and panting that they lose sight of the beautiful, tranquil country they are passing through; and then the first thing they know, they are old and worn out, and it doesn’t make any difference whether they’ve reached the goal or not.”

― Jean Webster

Life is not about reaching your destination; rather, it’s about the journey. It’s about the bumps, twists and turns you encounter and how you respond. It’s about growth and discovery. So, don’t sprint to the finish line. Instead, take your time getting to the end goal…take detours and stop to smell the roses.

Wish Carefully

“Don’t wish it was easier wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge wish for more wisdom”

― Jim Rohn

Life isn’t meant to be easy. You must go out and seek the answers to your most burning questions. And along the way, you will learn that life provides you with the necessary tools and lessons so that you can solve your own problems.

Live Simply

“In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don’t try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.”

― Lao Tzu

Be authentic and genuine in all that you do. Live simply. Life is about being present and enjoying every moment you’re given, for it can be gone in an instant.
