Refocus

“More often than not, people who are obsessed with their desires and feelings are generally unhappier in life vs. people that refocus their attention on service to others or a righteous cause. Have you ever heard someone say their life sucked because they fed the homeless? Made their children laugh? Or, bought a toy for a needy child at Christmas time?”

― Shannon L. Alder

Life is all about the lens you choose to view it from. It’s about your perspective and priorities. If you find yourself unhappy or dissatisfied with any aspect of your life, first take the time to assess where you place value and importance. And then try shifting your attention and focus to helping others or to a good cause and see if it changes your daily perspective.

Open Your Eyes

“The key to a better life isn’t always a change of scenery. Sometimes it simply requires opening your eyes.”

― Richelle E. Goodrich, Making Wishes

To move forward in life isn’t necessarily synonymous with a drastic 180 degrees change. Sometimes to make the most meaningful change means to open your eyes and become aware. Being aware allows you to make choices that gradually shifts your mind frame and eventually your circumstances.

Stand Tall

“Don’t let the rain drive you to the wrong shelter; the shade can turn out to be your protector and also your destroyer, and sometimes the rain is the perfect protector from the rain.”

― Michael Bassey Johnson

When things get hard and uncomfortable, do not hide or run away. Do not let the storm clouds drive you toward the wrong path. And remember that life is about embracing the rain and remaining strong in the midst of chaos. For when you emerge on the other side of the storm, you will be stronger for having gone through it.  So, stay true to your path and don’t let anything steer you off course.

Change

APPLY WITHIN

You once told me
You wanted to find
Yourself in the world –
And I told you to
First apply within,
To discover the world
within you.

You once told me
You wanted to save
The world from all its wars –
And I told you to
First save yourself
From the world,
And all the wars
You put yourself
Through.

― Suzy Kassem

If you want to effect change in this world, you must first make changes within yourself. How can you expect to make this world a better place if you haven’t started with you. You must embody what you wish to see in the world. Put simply, before you can rescue someone else, you must first save yourself.

Your Journey

“Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think you’ve lost time. There is no short-cutting to life. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.”

― Asha Tyson

Every step you’ve taken has led you to this moment right now. Any deviation and you would not have arrived at this place, at this time. So, look at each moment of your past as a stepping stone for you to learn, grow, and eventually lead you to where you need to be. For your journey, not your destination, shapes who you are and what you do in this life.

Choose Positivity

“Being negative only makes a difficult journey more difficult. You may be given a cactus, but you don’t have to sit on it.”

― Joyce Meyer

I’ve said it time and time again, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Your attitude affects all aspects of your life. You can choose to be negative and critical, but in the end you just make your life more miserable and the journey that much harder. Versus if you choose to smile in the face of hard times and choose to greet each day with a positive attitude even though everything isn’t perfect, you’ll realize that you can find happiness and contentment during difficult times. The choice is always yours.

Challenges

“Life’s journey is peppered with many bumps and pitfalls. If we make mountains out of each one, we will get nowhere.”

― Charles F. Glassman, Brain Drain The Breakthrough That Will Change Your Life

You will undoubtedly face many challenges and obstacles in your life. But, it is up to you whether you let it derail you from your path. You can choose to face and deal with whatever circumstance life throws at you. Or, you can choose to make insurmountable mountains out of each roadblock and remain stuck. The choice is yours.

Control Your Reactions

“Along our journey we will be confronted with many situations, some will be filled with joy, and some will be filled with heartache. How we react to what we are faced will determine what kind of outcome the rest of our journey through life will be like.”

― Susan Samaroo

Life is truly 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it. You, and you alone, get to decide if you will let life’s circumstances define who you are and the course of your life. For you can’t control what curveballs life will undoubtedly throw at you, but you can control how you deal with it.

Triumph Over Adversity

“My Dear Son,
I am so very proud of you. Now, as you embark on a new journey, I’d like to share this one piece of advice. Always, always remember that – adversity is not a detour. It is part of the path.

You will encounter obstacles. You will make mistakes. Be grateful for both. Your obstacles and mistakes will be your greatest teachers. And the only way to not make mistakes in this life is to do nothing, which is the biggest mistake of all.

Your challenges, if you let them, will become your greatest allies. Mountains can crush or raise you, depending on which side of the mountain you choose to stand on. All history bears out that the great, those who have changed the world, have all suffered great challenges. And, more times than not it’s precisely those challenges that, in God’s time, lead to triumph.

Abhor victimhood. Denounce entitlement. Neither are gifts, rather cages to damn the soul. Everyone who has walked this earth is a victim of injustice. Everyone.

Most of all, do not be too quick to denounce your sufferings. The difficult road you are called to walk may, in fact be your only path to success.”

― Richard Paul Evans, A Winter Dream

You will undoubtedly face many setbacks and difficulties throughout your life. And at times, it may seem like your path is strewn with jagged rocks and rough terrain. But you must not look at your struggles as merely a cross you must bear. No, use your struggles as stepping stones to propel you forward. Gather strength and perseverance from your challenges to triumph over any curveball life may throw at you.

Give Your All

“You read and write and sing and experience, thinking that one day these things will build the character you admire to live as. You love and lose and bleed best you can, to the extreme, hoping that one day the world will read you like the poem you want to be.”

― Charlotte Eriksson

Give your all to everything you do in this life. Lay your heart and soul bare on the table holding nothing back. Let the world truly see you for who you are and for all you have to give. For you deserve to shine as bright as the stars lighting up the night sky. Be confident, be bold, and let the world hear your song.
