Focus on You

“We cannot, after all, judge a biography by its length, by the number of pages in it; we must judge by the richness of the contents…Sometimes the ‘unfinisheds’ are among the most beautiful symphonies.”

― Viktor E. Frankl, The Doctor and the Soul

Don’t measure your life against someone else’s. No two stories are the same, just like no two paths are the same. Each of us must travel down our own unique path. For some it may be a long winding path, while for others it may be a a short, narrow path. And each of our journeys are simply different, not easier or harder. So, focus not on how great your neighbor’s life appears to be from the outside, but rather focus on creating your own best seller.

The Good Side

“It takes no more time to see the good side of life than to see the bad.”

― Jimmy Buffett

Life is about which lens you choose to view it from. You can choose to always see the negative or you can choose to find the positive in every situation. And you will find that life is often more bearable and enjoyable when you choose to see the glass as half full. So, take the good from all of life’s moments and leave the rest.

To a New Year

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

― Neil Gaiman

A new year is upon us. It is the beginning of a new chapter in the story of our lives. It is a time to say goodbye to the good, bad and ugly of the past year. It is the time to embrace new opportunities and charge full steam ahead through uncharted waters. Go beyond your comfort zone, try new things, make mistakes, but never stop moving forward.

From Within

“Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.”

― Og Mandino

Don’t look outside yourself for happiness and fulfillment because this can only be found within. Happiness and fulfillment doesn’t come from material things, for life is not about what you get; rather, life is all about what you give.

Live Your Life

“I want to live the rest of my life, however long or short, with as much sweetness as I can decently manage, loving all the people I love, and doing as much as I can of the work I still have to do. I am going to write fire until it comes out of my ears, my eyes, my noseholes–everywhere. Until it’s every breath I breathe. I’m going to go out like a fucking meteor!”

― Audre Lorde

Life is not meant to be lived by halves…no, you must give it your all or what’s the point. You get but one shot at this thing called life, so go all out and shine like a freaking supernova!

The Winding Road

“Life is not a straight line leading from one blessing to the next and then finally to heaven. Life is a winding and troubled road. Switchback after switchback. And the point of biblical stories like Joseph and Job and Esther and Ruth is to help us feel in our bones (not just know in our heads) that God is for us in all these strange turns. God is not just showing up after the trouble and cleaning it up. He is plotting the course and managing the troubles with far-reaching purposes for our good and for the glory of Jesus Christ.”

― John Piper

Life is a winding road filled with many ups and downs. It’s not meant to be easy or even to make sense. It’s about having faith that everything will work out in the end.

Do Something

“I said “Somebody should do something about that.” Then I realized I am somebody.”

― Lily Tomlin

Don’t sit around complaining about the unfairness of life and that someone else should fix what is wrong and broken in this world. If you see a problem, then get up and do something about it. If you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem. As Gandhi so wisely said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Wish Carefully

“Don’t wish it was easier wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge wish for more wisdom”

― Jim Rohn

Life isn’t meant to be easy. You must go out and seek the answers to your most burning questions. And along the way, you will learn that life provides you with the necessary tools and lessons so that you can solve your own problems.

Believe in Yourself

“You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.”

― Richelle E. Goodrich

As you begin a new week, allow yourself to believe in new possibilities. Have faith in yourself and all that you do. For where there is a will, there is a way. And you alone possess the tools to build the life you crave.
